two weekends ago was the first ever hello kitty convention in celebration of hello kitty's 40th birthday/anniversary. i was lucky enough to be invited to the vip opening the wednesday night before the start of the convention. it was so amazing to see what they were able to come up with. i loved seeing the models in the couture dresses, the free tattoo station, and of course the hello kitty wine. one of my favorite parts was the game room where you can play the games for free and win prizes -- the room also featured 3 photobooths. this room was definitely wayyyy too small in my opinion, even just for the opening night guests. i was also super impressed with the goody bag they gave us, which featured hello kitty con exclusive goods and a make up kit from sephora. there was also a performance by a famous japanese singer, but i don't remember his name. haha. he reminded me of a japanese version michael jackson. the party was for four hours, but i felt i saw and did everything within 2 hours. i've never been to a convention before so i don't have anything to compare it to, but it just seemed like one big shopping extravaganza. nonetheless, it was successful convention for sanrio. they just need a bigger venue for the 50th!
