as you can guess from the title, what happens in vegas... goes on the blog. one of the best and not so bad things about living in los angeles/southern california in general is that it feels like spring or summer all year round. so while the rest of the country is watching the leaves change, wearing comfy sweaters, and drinking pumpkin spice lattes, i'm still going to the beach with friends and trying to find AC during the day. BUT it's not summer and it makes me really miss when it was actually summer. this throwback thursday is dedicated to one of my last weeks of summer before my boyfriend went back to school and i started my new job. take me back to vegas please (even though it's getting cold there now)!!
before i get started, let me just say that you can have so many different types of experiences in vegas depending on who you go with. i guess you can say that about any place, but when i go to vegas with just my girlfriends, the agenda is completely different than when i go with a group of guys and girls, or in this case, just my boyfriend and i. don't worry though, you're bound to have a good time no matter what type of group you go with; even if you get your iphone, credit card, debit card, and drivers stolen in the first four hours arriving into vegas, which happened to me before, but i'll leave that for another tbt. for now, here's the boyfriend + me vegas experience.
first, something i would never do with my girls is go to a nice restaurant (unless it was for someone's birthday). with a smaller group, it's easier to settle on a place to eat and vegas has so many great places to try! our first night we ate at my boyfriend's favorite restaurant in vegas. he made me swear not to tell anyone the name of it, but can you tell they had awesome oysters??
another thing i would never do with my girls -- pay to go to the club and actually see the headlining dj. a group of girls can easily get into clubs for free in vegas -- just make your instagram public, post of a picture with your friends, hashtag vegas, and a promoter will comment. don't worry, it's not a scam either. this time since it was just me and boyfriend, i had to pay. granted, it was still only $20 compared to his $75. not seeing the headlining dj is just a habit of my friends and i.
i'm so glad i got to see my favorite dj of all time! i've been bugging aaron for months now to go see him with me and it was just perfect timing that he was going to be in vegas that weekend. warning: if you're gonna be on the floor in front of the dj booth, be prepared for a lot of pushing! i suggest getting a few drinks in before heading down there and before they stop letting people onto the floor.
on another note: i booked an appointment at sephora to get my make up done (highly recommend if you want to have your make up done) since i had a complimentary makeover and while i was getting that done, aaron went to the casino to gamble. while you're gambling, you can get free drinks so take advantage of the free alcohol while you hopefully don't lose all your money.
we left a few dollars tip for our housekeeping ladies after our first night and she left this sweet message for us. glad we were able to make her day and her note made my day :) nothing beats a handwritten thank you note.
one of aaron's friends lives in vegas so we met up with him at a ramen place off of the strip called sora ramen. i think this one might've been the spicy miso. it was delicious!
yet another thing i haven't done with my girls in vegas is go see a show! this was my first time seeing a cirque du soleil show and it did not disappoint! aaron ended up getting the tickets super cheap -- i don't remember how much he paid but i remember he called them directly to purchase the tickets and they gave him a really good deal. i really hope i get to see more of their shows in vegas or just more shows in general!
i opted out of getting my typical fat tuesday because i couldn't resist getting this rubber duck one from the smaller sugar factory in the hotel. isn't it just the cutest?? to be honest though, the drink wasn't good since they don't mix the alcohol with the slushie and it had a strong taste of the plastic from the cup. totally worth it though for this cute souvenir.
vegas is one of the best places to eat buffet and i've always wanted to try wicked spoon after hearing so many great things about it. the weekends and dinner obviously are more expensive. luckily we ended up staying until monday. this was only my second time getting buffet in vegas and it was delicious. i especially loved all of the desserts :)
so in case you couldn't tell, my vegas experience with my boyfriend pretty much revolved around food. but can you blame us? vegas has so many great places to eat at and... we just really love to eat. all of my previous experiences with vegas have been revolved around clubbing and it was nice to see another side for a change and i got to see it with my favorite person (lame).
with my birthday coming up in a couple weeks and talking about how different my experience is with my girls, i'm going to share another throwback vegas trip from when i celebrated my 21st birthday with my best friends. what better way to celebrate a 21st birthday than in vegas?
xoxo,
camryn
