lvi basketball tournament | las vegas, nevada

if you're japanese-american and grew up in socal then you most likely played asian league basketball when you were a kid/teenager and went to all the basketball dances. now as adults, we no longer have weekly basketball games or tournament dances to attend. but every summer in august, japanese-amerians gather to relive their glory days and play in the las vegas invitational.

don't mistake me for one of those people though -- i haven't touched a basketball in almost 10 years. the last time i played in the las vegas basketball tournament was when i was in 8th grade. some of my friends and i did want to join in on the fun in las vegas though. we drove straight to vegas after work and met our friends at the hotel bar. it was an epic reunion to say the least. not only did i see people i haven't seen since high school, but also reconnected with an old basketball coach from when i was in elementary school! it was a lot of fun seeing familiar faces and getting away from la for the weekend. taryn even came down just for the night since i told her i was going to be there!

the next morning while some people had basketball games to play in, a few of the girls and i went to the day club instead. this was my first real day club experience and i couldn't believe how long the line was to get in! once we got inside the line for the bar was insane and we ended up paying $40 each for a drink! at least we got to see calvin harris up close, but we didn't stay too much longer after he came out. after day club, we went back to the hotel to eat a late lunch and take a nap before going out again.

where is taylor swift though?
too many people!

we only were able to take a short nap, eat a few bites of food, and take a quick shower before we had to get ready for the evening. we first went to surrender night club to meet up with one of our friends, but we didn't stay for too long. just as people were starting to get there, we headed to omnia. one of our friends had a table at omnia so we just hung out there for most of the night. we left the club around 2:30 a.m. and decided we might as well start driving back to la since i had to be back at work by noon.

i got back to work a few hours before my shift started which gave me some time to power nap in my car. it was such a short but really fun weekend! i guess it's safe to say that i will not turn down a trip to vegas if it involves a cheap hotel, free tables, and amazing friends.

vegas, i know i'll see you soon.

xoxo,
camryn
