last dc trip... for a while | washington, dc

in the last year and a half, i've gone to dc a handful of times, but never felt the need to blog about it. i thought i would share my most recent trip since it will be one of my last dc trips for a while. the main reason for my frequent visits in the last year and a half was to visit my boyfriend who was living in dc and going to business school at umd. this last trip was for his graduation. and starting in august, he will be working in nyc. although two of my good friends still live in dc, most of my trips to the east coast will now to be to ny.
as i flew in to dc and walked through my old stomping grounds, i felt extremely nostalgic my entire time there. i grew up in la, but i really grew as an adult in dc. i have so many memories there -- both good and bad. and even after living there for three years and visiting several times after, i was still able to experience new things in this last trip. this city has given me so much and will always have a special place in my heart.

i took a red eye flight (with a layover) on a tuesday night and arrived in dc on wednesday morning. despite having most of the day free to do activities, i'm pretty sure i slept through most of it. later that night i met up with anaita and chewy at this random bar near the mall. of course chewy knew the owner and since i was visiting from out of town, he took us to the rooftop for the best view of the washington monument.

the next day was aaron's graduation, which was inconveniently on a thursday afternoon and of course it rained that day too. before i met up with aaron and his parents to head to umd, i grabbed brunch at the coupe with my gbig, maiya. i always love catching up with maiya. after brunch, i met aaron and his parents at the hotel. i had some confusion finding their room and the cleaning lady said, "your brother and parents are down the hall." i embarrassingly told her he was my boyfriend and then i couldn't tell who was more embarrassed. haha. his graduation didn't take too long since it was only for the masters of business graduates. it's crazy to think i met him when he just started his masters and now he's off to work in nyc! time flies. after his graduation, we took his parents to one of our favorite restaurants, farmers fishers bakers.

we spent our friday being tourists since aaron's parents had never been to dc before. aaron bought one of those hop on hop off tickets which they didn't even check! our first stop was the national air & space museum which was my first time going there! after we spent some time there, we hopped back on the bus -- our tour guide was awful! all she would say is, "this is a mexican restaurant. this is the hyatt hotel." what a waste of money. we got off the bus again near the lincoln memorial and walked over the washington monument. then we had dinner at shake shack in dupont -- his parents agree in n out is better. haha. later that night aaron and i met up with his friends at u street.

on saturday we met up with one of aaron's friends at eastern market. i hadn't been there in a long time and it was nice to walk around and see all the different booths set up. we had lunch at a random place inside the actual eastern market building where we ate a crab cake sandwich. aaron bought me this beautiful hamsa necklace from enise -- she sells some of her items in bloomingdales. as soon as we got on the metro, i was starting not to feel well and we got off after a couple stops and ran out to find a restaurant. it turned out we were right by the national mall again so we thought it would be nice to just hang out for a bit and relax. we eventually made our way to nando's to meet some of aaron's friends for dinner. after dinner we met up with anaita again at crepeaway. it was a nice way to end the night.

just relaxing on the mall and killing time
sunday was my last full day in dc and most of it was spent relaxing. aaron and i had one last meal at cava before buying a bottle of wine to make sangria. we finished the day by eating at my favorite restaurant, zaytinya and reliving our first date at daikaya. i couldn't have asked for a better way to end the trip.

here are some other pictures from dc trips i never blogged about:

october 2013 -- the month i officially moved out of dc and when i met aaron
february 2014 -- rev and liz's birthday
may 2014 -- sweetlife festival & au graduation
november 2014 -- thanksgiving weekend
february 2015 - monte carlo gala & rev
i love dc and everything it has given me the last 6 years -- some of my greatest friends, greatest heartbreaks, and greatest loves. i wouldn't be the person i am today without having gone to college in dc. i'm not sure when i'll be back, but this definitely wasn't the last time. thank you for all the memories <3

xoxo,
camryn
